It seems as though UI Fraud schemes have a kind of circular life cycle. They appear, go away for a while and then pop up again. The scam of using invalid Social Security Numbers is illustrative of this pattern. We haven’t seen many examples of this scam in recent time, but a case has come up in Connecticut.A landscaper has been charged with illegally collecting more than $10,000 in UI benefits using an invalid SS#. He has been charged with one count each of Larceny in the First Degree by Defrauding a Public Community and the Unemployment Compensation fund. The scam is purported to have taken place from December 2010 through February 2013.
