On Point Technology soon to release a new version of Barts
On Point Technology is pleased to announce that we will soon be releasing version 3.0 of the Benefit Audit, Reporting and Tracking System (Barts). Barts 3.0 will offer a number of significant enhancements over previous versions of the software. The enhancements came from customer input and requests, and our continuous program of quality, use, and performance analysis.
"We're committed to maintaining the leadership position in UI Program Integrity software that we've secured since our founding in 1996," says Michael Lorsbach, President of On Point Technology. "This is possible through listening to our clients, being responsive to changes in federal and state emphases, laws, rules, and regulations, and staying abreast of technological advances in hardware and software."
The 13 major enhancements embodied in Barts 3.0 are a combination of changes that will provide visibly new and expanded functionality to the client, and several that will operate in the background to improve system performance, deployment capability, and software support.
The functionality enhancements include:
- Adjudication of non-earnings issues
- Processing of an unlimited number of issues per case
- E-mail notification of all exceptions
- Nine user configurable earnings types
- Nine user configurable deduction types
- Case snapshot for processing robust determinations
- Employer notices addressed (for mailing) by issue type
- Improved database configurability
Background-centric enhancements include:
- Improvement in automated install processes
- All exceptions written to database
- Better logging of file transfer protocol (FTP) return codes
- Extended refresh capability to treat dependent transactions as a single logical unit of work
- Code sharing across products through extension of the component library
Current Barts customers will be offered the opportunity to upgrade to Barts 3.0 under On Point Technology's Enterprise Product Assurance Program. For more information about the Program, contact Bob Yokavonus at 908-526-0426 or robert.yokavonus@onpointtech.com. |
Has your agency had its annual BPC check-up?
On Point Technology recently launched a Benefit Payment Control (BPC) check-up as a complimentary service to those participating in our Enterprise Product Assurance Program. Everyone knows how important it is to proactively manage your personal health and to visit your doctor for annual physical examinations. On Point Technology's BPC check-up is designed around the same concept. Our business experts assist your BPC group in maintaining the health of your UI Integrity Program.
Here is a partial list of the questions the BPC check-up will help you answer:
- What is the most efficient use of staff resources?
- What impediments are there to greater effectiveness and how can they be removed?
- How can quality determinations be improved? How can you get fewer appealed and overturned determinations?
- What source of overpayment (audit type) is most productive in terms of overpayments established? What is the least productive in terms of resources required per case?
- How can you get to those undetected overpayment dollars that the Benefit Accuracy Measurement (BAM) says exist?
- What percentage of employers' Wage Audit Notices are returned in a given month? Does the percentage differ for cases initiated by the quarterly wage record crossmatch, state New Hire database, or national New Hire database?
- What is the effort an individual investigator devotes to generate an overpayment dollar?
- Have recent changes in policy or staffing levels affected your operational statistics?
- Does a bottleneck exist within the normal processing of overpayment cases?
- Where do you get the biggest bang for your buck?
- What is the best method to maximize your audit coverage?
On Point Technology presents the answers to these questions and assigns a quantitative score to your BPC satisfaction during its BPC check-up.
As a partner in managing your UI program, our interests extend beyond simply understanding your historical actions. The BPC check-up is intended to improve the future health of your operations as well. Our goal is to ensure every customer has found the shortest path to value. This means developing a plan to insure the BAM predicted overpayment rates meet U.S. Department of Labor minimums and the state's UI trust fund benefits from the most efficient identification of overpayments.
If you're interested in a BPC check-up, please contact Ed Gafron at 708-497-4614 or ed.gafron@onpointtech.com. |
Colorado agency uncovers more than 2,000 cases of SSN theft
Acting on an order from Executive Director Rick Grice, Information Systems staff at the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment (CDLE) recently discovered 2,249 cases of Social Security number theft.
CDLE found multiple instances of a single Social Security number being filed by more than six employers in regard to Workers' Compensation insurance. The discovery was made using data from the third quarter of 2005. In one instance, the same Social Security Number was provided by 57 different employers.
In conducting the search, the Department looked for numbers that were being used at six or more places of employment, recognizing that a number can be legitimately used several times—for instance, in situations where people have more than one job. Identity theft has been recognized as a growing problem by Colorado and in May 2006 a law was enacted making it an offense punishable by up to six years in prison.
This was a timely and important discovery by the CDLE, reacting to a problem of national concern. Congratulations to Executive Director Grice and his staff.
Note: On Point Technology's package software application, Aware, has "one-click" capability to identify multiple uses of the same Social Security number and also to determine the validity of Social Security numbers used to file UI claims. |
Idaho agency hosts outstanding 70th Annual NASWA Conference in Boise
We at On Point Technology thank Rich Hobbie and the NASWA staff, as well as Roger Madsen and the Idaho Department of Commerce and Labor, for all the hard work that went into making NASWA's 70th Annual Conference in Boise a great success. The local arrangements for the facilities, activities, food and entertainment couldn't have been better. The program for the conference, which took place September 5-8, was timely, informative, and interesting.
On Point Technology enjoyed the opportunity to demonstrate our suite of UI Integrity package software products, which includes Barts, Aware, and Recover, for very many of those in attendance. Thank you to all the conference participants who took time to stop by our booth to discuss and view the applications. We really appreciate it!
Idaho set the bar for the conference pretty high and we look forward to next year's meeting in Hartford, Connecticut, when the staff at the Connecticut Department of Labor gets their opportunity to shine. |
On Point Technology to exhibit next at UI Directors' Conference
On Point Technology will be in Denver at the end of October to exhibit at the NASWA UI Directors' Conference and Legal Issues Forum. We'll be demonstrating our entire suite of UI Integrity package software applications: Barts, Aware, and Recover.
Highlights of our presentation will include two new Barts enhancements: an interface to the National Directory of New Hires, and the ability for employers to respond to Wage Audit Notices over the Internet.
The Colorado Department of Labor and Employment's conference committee has assembled what promises to be an enlightening agenda of timely and relevant topics. The local arrangements committee has assembled a top-notch program of events and activities to entertain attendees when the conference is not in session.
There's still plenty of time to register and we urge all of you to attend the conference and take full advantage of this once-a-year opportunity to meet with your colleagues and share information, ideas, and experiences. Conference details can be found at www.coworkforce.com/2006conf.
On Point Technology looks forward to seeing you in the "Mile High City."
If you would like to receive materials or information prior to the conference, contact Bob Yokavonus at 908-526-0426 or robert.yokavonus@onpointtech.com. |

Washington uncovers millions in UI fraud
Congratulations to Washington State's Employment Security Department (ESD), a long time On Point Technology client, for its recent success in uncovering UI fraud. ESD announced that during the second quarter of 2006 it uncovered $5.2 million in UI fraud and prevented another $2.7 million. They detected $1.5 million more in fraud than in the previous quarter and increased prevention by $700,000.
On Point Technology tips its hat to the agency staff for a job well done and for their effective deployment of state-of-the-art automated tools to protect the UI trust fund in their state from illegal raiding. |
